Abstract

Leukemia is a malignancy affecting the WBCs of the bone marrow. Leukemia is classified as either acute or chronic, and classification is essential since there are important differences in response to treatment of the various types of leukemia.
The
etiology of the leukemia is unknown. For accurate diagnosis, several laboratory studies, including CBC, PBS, BM biopsy, immunophenotyping, chromosome analysis, are necessary.
Dentists have become increasingly interested in leukemia, because the oral complications are common throughout the clinical course of the disease, dental management is complex, and the mouth is a potential source of morbidity and mortality.
Because
oral
signs and symptoms are common, the dentist may be the first clinician to suspect the disease.
A case of leukemia presenting as facial infection is described with literature review.
